Donna, I've had experience with this mange. My first Norfolk terrier had it
around a year old, just as we were beginning to show her. She was itching her
muzzle, where it most commonly shows up and in a few days had two raw spots.
The test at the vets for mange was positive. He gave us the Goodwin ointment,
which I found out later was a placebo that did no good whatsoever but calmed
the owner thinking I was doing something to help.
The spots cleared up on their own in a couple of weeks. I know it was brought
on by stress because she hated dog shows and by a poor immune system. The
vet, who also did harm to my cat, advised we never breed her. My reading on
the subject showed otherwise. So two years later, with no other incedents we
did breed her. We have bred her twice and even that stress did not bring this
disease about again.
As I understand it, there are two types of this disease. One like we had that
happens on occasion in puppies under stress and the other kind that developes
into a full blown case on the whole body. I would do nothing but give her
good foods and vitamins to strengthen her immune system, give her her
necessary shots every three years not annually and see what happens. Good
luck.
