It is my opinion which may be wrong in your eyes but is right in mine.  I
believe you are wrong if we were to phrase it as you did.  To each their own
beliefs.  My belief is that slicing a dogs vocal cords for the
benefit/convenience of the owner or neighbor is wrong.  While I believe there
is much debate and a split in beliefs when it comes to the extreme situations
some have described where debarking was a last alternative therefore invoked,
I also believe that a large number of debarkings are done without any extreme
situation, and/or because the owners are just lazy and it is convenient (and
somewhat accepted) not only (it appears) in Cavaliers but other breeds where
it may be standard procedure almost.  I think it is a shame that it is
accepted so readily.  That is my opinion.

Hey I may be on the radical edge what can I say... after all I also think
breaking a dogs ears so they stand up pretty and cutting off (docking) tails
is also an unnecessary practice that should be stopped.
