Hello, Glenn,
Well, we have used a pet sitter with pretty good success especially for
short periods of time. Your dogs will also have each other for company
which does make a difference. It does help if you ask the pet sitter to
take them out for a walk during the middle of the day. The exercise
helps, I think, to have them look forward to seeing the sitter again.
(I sometimes wonder why our dogs love to go for walks more than we do?)

However, sometimes you can find a student at a local college through
their vet tech or other programs that will be willing to live in for the
time that you are gone. We have also done that with great success. I
would do this if I was gone for more than a four day weekend.
It helps to leave lots of soda, pizza and other cooked food for the
live in sitter. <G>.
