Glenn When we leave for even one overnight visit, we have someone move into the house to take care of our dogs and parrotts. We have been fortunate to know someone who is a family member of a trusted friend with Cavaliers who does this. She's been house sitting for us for years. She loves the dogs and they jump for joy when they see her coming.
Before that we hired a professional house sitter to do the same thing but that entity no longer does house sitting. That was also a satisfactory arrangement but the interview process has to be done I think much more carefully than enlisting the services of an acquaintance or a referral from a friend if you are considering doing it this way. If the house sitter we now prefer is unavailable, we rearrange our travel schedule to fit hers if possible. Nothing like having someone move into the house and love, play with and sleep with our Cavaliers. Better yet, nothing like having someone move into the house and understand why we would want her to do this. She loves our dogs so much, in a way she considers them to be hers, and she totally "gets it". Hope this helps.
