I do not know what the 'general accepted practice' here in the US, but in the Netherlands, the puppies are ALL chipped when the kennel club checks them out, processes their registration, etc. - somewhere around 3 to 5 weeks of age! The initial pedigree has the permanent identification information - Just sharing information - as I learn - Joan
