There is more to type than just the head. The silhouette that the dog
presents is just as much a part of type as the head. Perfect example...while
watching Cavalier judging at Crufts this year. There was an exhibit who had
nice foot timing, a level topline but from across the ring standing bore a
striking resemblance to a tibetan spaniel minus the tail lying on the back.
I have no idea what the head looked like up close as I was smack in the
middle of both rings (I wish we could do that here). For arguments sake
let's assume that this dog had a glorious head besides nice movement...that
still does not make it a typey Cavalier. The judge must have felt the same
because this specific exhibit did not make the cut. Before anyone asks I
will not name the exhibit, nor give any hints.

The perfect dog of any breed does not exist and probably never will, they
all have their faults. However, it is that goal of perfection we should
strive to attain. That doesn't mean though that you throw the baby out with
the bathwater. To quote Pat Trotter, "Breed for type, cull for soundness."
