They are supposed to move parallel at a good trot? Parallel from where to where? Hips to paws or hocks to paws? Every book I've read and my Dogsteps video says most dogs are supposed to start out parallel but start to converge as they move faster and end up moving *sort of* (give me a break here--can't figure out any other way to draw it with the computer!) like this at a proper show gait-- \ / . The top being the pelvis, hocks down near the bottom, paws at the bottom. I don't want so much space between the paws at a proper show gait as shown in the illustration, but can't draw it closer on the computer or they are touching. Anyhow I want my dogs paws to be close but not rubbing against each other or single tracking at the correct gait whereas other breeds are supposed to single track. I want the hocks a bit further out than the paws--if they are closer than the paws the dog is cowhocked, if the hocks are directly above the paws while moving at a show gait but still moving cleanly I call that a variation of close (and consider it a very mild form of being cowhocked). And of course the hips/pelvis wider than both--a nice wide, strong pelvis. Anyway, that is what I aim for and how most of my dogs move in the rear. I want the front to move like this as well. I find lots of faulty fronts in Cavaliers--they are either too wide when moving or pinched because of upright shoulders putting the legs too far forward--the latter being the latest trend in CKCSC.
