The stud book number is the month and year that the dog was listed in the stud book of AKC.(AKC stud books are published every month and now you can get this via computer) It means that the dog has produced it's first litter of puppies. After that, all AKC papers that use this dog's name will list the stud book number after it so that anyone interested will know where to look for information on the dog. The stud book listing will give the name of the dog, it's color, AKC number, the names of it's sire and dam and their AKC numbers, the names of the dog's breeder and owner. It will only be listed this one time, when it's first litter has been registered. All the best, Susan Cochran
