Terrie
The stud book number is gained at Championship shows, with the exception of
a dog or bitch who has gained the Junior Warrant by winning both at Open
shows and Championship shows (12 of the points that is 4 first places must
be won at Championship shows - 25 in total required)
The stud book number is supposed to be used instead of the registration
number when you fill in the green form to register a litter (the KC has been
known to send the form back - stating the incorrect number has been used!!
VBG guess who to!! Though they don't appear to be as "picky" about it these
days perhaps because their recent registration forms have both numbers on!)
I assume that it is intended to indicate that the dog/bitch is of good
quality
I can't find in the Red Book any reference to a dog going best in show
gaining its number as Marian mentioned but the KC may have changed the rules
since going to print. However as she quite rightly said it qualifies a dog
to enter at Crufts for life
