SOME of them are finishable in the AKC and some of them are not! That doesn't make them show quality. I only sell puppies as show quality if I believe they will be truly competitive at the specialty level. Most of the time I only keep puppies that will be truly competitive at the specialty level--although some of them can't be shown due to markings (or rather I wouldn't show them). But if they had good markings they would be competitive at the specialty level. In other words they need type, structure, movement, temperament and health for me to keep them. However, now and then one has something so good that I overlook something else and keep them. My Didi, Roycroft Daydream Believer, is an example. I just cannot stand her head, but from day 1 her body, structure, body type, and movement were breathtaking--she was only lacking that head. She stood out even as an 8 week puppy. She still has the most wonderful balanced body with nearly perfect movement and really well let down hocks. This is not to say she is not competitive--she did win Best Puppy in Show at a CKCSC show over 40 puppies one time, (and was in strong contention for WB and RWB) but she isn't what I consider as typical of what I produce so I haven't campaigned her in the AKC. I will instead breed her, and keep and show one of her babies who has that body and a good head too. She will be 5 in October and is still heart clear--both her parents turn 7 years old today (yep, they have the same birthday!) and are still clear as well. She is a true asset to my breeding program and has produced some really nice puppies, all with better heads than she has thank goodness!
