I have seen this done as well. Actually I do tend to evaluate my litters a little bit that way also--however it is the new PET owner I am telling his/her pet is good enough to finish in the AKC--not someone looking to show. I also add that I don't consider a puppy show quality unless I feel it will be competitive at the specialty level.
