Chris,

My veterinary cardiologist at Purdue University Vet School agrees with
that report. My vet put one of my dogs on Enalapril for her grade 1V
murmur. I took her to Purdue for her annual cardiac workup by Dr. Dan
Hogan. After completing the Doppler, Chest X-ray, etc. it was
determined she was not in heart failure. He told me that I was wasting
my money. He believes that the only time Enalapril is effective is when
the dog is in heart failure. He said that it does nothing to delay the
onset.

Subject: [CKCS-L] Dog Fancy-May/Drug Study & MVD

Hi!
Did anyone else notice the report in Dog Fancy, May 2002, regarding a
Scandinavian study which was published in the Journal of Veterinary
Internal Medicine? It reports that a study of an enalapril, an
enzyme-inhibiting drug, does nothing to delay the onset of cardiac
failure in dogs with murmurs due to MVD. I've not yet had to deal with
MVD and therefore I am not familiar with the drugs used to treat it. Is
enalapril something that is prescribed here in the US? Have these
results been out for a while and I am just late in reading about them?
Thanks, Christine Solomon Long Grove, IL http://members.aol.com/tocavs2/
