Surgical implantation such as Laura described is recommended if there is a
suspicion of a problem with the uterus.  Under normal conditions it is far
less invasive.  The preparation of the semen is the same, however, the
incision is much smaller and the uterus is undisturbed.  The syringe is used
to place the semen just inside the cervix and tiny incision seldom requires
more than a stitch.  This process is used when a natural breeding is not
possible because of distance or if the semen is not as viable as would be
desirable.
