Go to that link that Pam provided. Then go to Reviews of Degenerative Valve
Disease Publications. Then scroll down to the 1996 study of cavaliers.
There is a brief abstract there. It appears from the abstract that they
selected 7 sires and 30 dams. It would appear to me, although I could be
wrong, that they selected the dogs on the "basis of their liability to
develop CVD. In other words, it doesn't appear that they were searching for
dogs from heart clear lines for the study. Again, I could be wrong.
Terminology is everything in these abstracts, and if you don't understand
the terminology, you don't understand the abstract. There were something
like 107 puppies produced from these dogs and 55% of them were heart clear
at 5. 45% had developed CVD. Laura, If I have misinterpreted this, please
let me know because this study is of interest to me. Certainly by selecting
dogs with, or with the liability to produce CVD, you would produce pups with
CVD. Myra
