This is my other question for today: I recently inquired about using a boy
for my Amy and when we received his stud contract we decided to pass on him
even though we were very interested. There were two sections on the
contract that I am questioning and wondering if this is standard procedure
out there for those of you who own stud dogs. The dog's owner tells me that
he is at public stud, so there must have been people who would agree to this
stipulations even though they made me feel a little bit uncomfortable. The
first section is that I would not have been able to sell a puppy from that
breeding as a show prospect without the agreement of the stud dog's owner.
The second section was that the stud dog owner had first right of refusal to
anything we didn't want to keep ourselves at a pre-set price of $1800. I
don't mind the stud dog owner buying a puppy or puppies, but I guess I don't
like the idea that they set the price for my puppy. So....we
regretfully passed on the dog even though it might have been a nice
breeding. Are this stipulations standard with those of you who have stud
dogs? We've never done a contract before, and are very casual about it when
people use our dogs, but now I'm thinking we should be getting things down
in writing. Was I being unreasonable to pass on this dog because of this
contract? Myra
