He also said if he had a dog clear at 3 but discovered a murmur at 3.5 years that he still should be a part of the breeders breeding program because to drop all dogs that have a murmur at 3.5 years of age would amplify too many other negative traits and create new problems that don't exist now in our breed.... Treatment suggestions: murmur, no signs, no treatment shows symptoms, use lasix.... Food: continue the same brand of dog food they enjoyed prior to diagnosis vs. salt restricted food , however, restrict salt from treats like no more peanut butter or chicken skin. Most important for them to keep eating.>
So Dr. Jacobs is completely discounting the cardiologists' study that was done and presented to the Club several years ago??? I am very surprised, and have never heard that he has said this in the past. Also, he's saying to use lasix alone? I have read in several different places and also been told by a cardiologist that you should never use lasix alone (without enalapril), that it is dangerous. Also, of course it's important for them to keep eating, but not a diet loaded with salt. There are *many* good diets that are low in salt besides the prescription diets. I would love to see all of this written by him. Personally, a 5% drop in the last 7 years doesn't sound like much progress to me. Patricia, I would like your permission to forward your post to someone who has been taking her Cavaliers to Gil for years. Would you mind if I did this?
