I have many e-mail inquiries from people all over the USA, but primarily in the Northeastern USA for pet/companion puppies and the sad fact is that in searching the internet, they have routinely come across puppy-mill resources such as this one. Recently I had a call from someone who was having "second thoughts" about purchasing a puppy from someone here in Carolina, Rhode Island (yes that's the name of the town) who had already put a deposit on a puppy but in checking the 'credentials' of the breeder discovered a few things that didn't seem quite right. 'Holly' told them that she had all her stock tested, but couldn't provide the specific Veterinary resource for reference, and no, she doesn't show her cavaliers as that's for people who are only in it for the ego trip... and her web page suggests she's been breeding Cavaliers for 16 years! There are several commercial breeders up in the Northeast: "Mary" and "Kim" on Long Island, "Lois" in Taunton, Massachusetts, and "Michael" in Pennsylvania are 4 that plague us right now. These people come by their dogs thru various resources, not the least of which are UK breeders who have recently sold several of them "legitimate" Cavaliers that are "AKC/CKCSCUSA-registerable". 3 of these four people have several other breeds as well. I would like to ask all of you on this list for two things: #1, please if you are in New England Area especially, send me your e-mail address and I will forward all who fill out the basic questionnaire I ask of the inquirers. I really need to keep a far more accessible list of those folks up here in my area and you don't need to have puppies right now - just be a resource of information for the future of our wonderful breed. #2. Check all references that inquire after puppy or dog. Many of these people who are only commercially-motivated go out of their way to present themselves as reputable and they give references that, if verified, would never hold up. Once the money has changed hands, and the puppy/dog is sold, it's too late for all the righteous regrets that many will have. Thanks for reading this.
