You don't have to surrender your "pet" to go after these people, however
finding the financing and the time to go after these people who have
(probably) committed FRAUD is very difficult. Then, too, people like Jane
Stauffer just change their names and go on...Are you all aware that there's
a commercial breeder who has access to all our posts and sends them to her
contacts?

I had an e-mail recently from someone who asked a lot of questions and then
gave me a "time frame" as to when they wanted a puppy. This person meant
well (I think) but after speaking via telephone, I was told they had also
sent their inquiry to at least 40 breeders and the ONLY people who responded
were the commercial people, who just ALWAYS have a puppy available. I went
thru their list and then, after screening them thru my questionnaire, I sent
them a list of reputable contacts in the area. They proceeded to send their
generic questionnaire to all of these people as well. The basic problem
with reputable breeders dealing with internet inquiries is the kind and
tenor of the responses: Many of their responses are indeed pompous and
extremely impatient with what is mostly a sincere inquiry, whereas
"commercial breeders" always have a puppy, a 'thank you for the inquiry',
and will tell this person just about anything they want to hear.

There must be some sort of middle ground regarding responses to inquiries
about the breed and puppies/adults available. As far as "AKC" registerable
is concerned, if you ask for this information and you are not given
verifiable (with AKC) information, DON'T BUY the dog! AKC has bee saying
and publishing this advice for years, but apparently buyers of dogs who just
have to have one right away continue to ignore/overlook this advice.
