Carolyn - My daughter, who works at a veterinary practice, told me this
weekend that they had a dog in the practice who received the new indictable
heartworm vaccine and had a really bad reaction. This was a 3 yr. old dog
who had never had a problem on the chewable Heartguard.
Given the incidence of bad reactions to various vaccines that I've
heard about with Cavaliers, I'm glad I opted against this vaccine when my vet
tried to get me to use it with Paisley and Callie.
The other reason I opted out is that the injectable doesn't deal with
intestinal worms. Since we have a bunch of barn cats that seem to think our
gardens and yard is their litterbox, knowing that my dogs are basically
protected against most parasitic worms is important. I never know when they
might discover a yummy snack in the grass....ick!
