I have been lurking on this list for quite a while. I do not have a Cavalier,
though maybe someday. The questions and comments about prospective buyers
e-mailing questions of cost has prompted me to share with you my point of
view as a prospective puppy buyer.

And, in our ignorance, we may do something to offend. We often don't know
where to start in finding a puppy or dog to suit our needs. For some, as in
my case, we may have done research on types of breeds and have definite needs
and parameters in our selection. One of these is financial. I know which
breeds fulfill my needs for temperament, size, activity, etc., but I had no
idea of the type of cost that would be entailed in the purchase of a Cavalier
puppy. I happened to find a breeder whom I believe to be reputable by the
content of her website and by her involvement in CKCSC. And, she actually
lives in the same town I do! I would never presume to phone because I would
not want to intrude upon her privacy. A e-mail can be answered at her
convenience. In a e-mail I did explain that I was just starting out, but my
only two questions were how much and how long. She graciously answered how
much and invited me to call if I was interesting in pursuing the possibility
of acquiring a puppy. Instead, I e-mailed her my thanks for the information
because the cost of a "pet quality" puppy is outside my financial reach.
Actually, I was stunned to discover that the price quoted me was more than
our monthly take-home pay. Disappointment is also easier to take with a
e-mail instead of in person or on the phone. So, if you are one who has
thought it "tacky" as Myra said, to discuss cost up front, please consider it
as another point of education in the possibility of sharing one's life with a
Cavalier.

Thank you for listening to a "prospective buyer" point of view.
