I've started giving out price first also, of course I always add to approved home!
I've
had the experience of spending hours talking to prospective buyers (over several
days), and
then they ask the cost - and answering with Oh, I thought it was around $300... I
always
tried to state the price early to avoid this. Sometimes I wonder if I forget, or it's
a
ploy to get a lower price ---since by this time, I know it's a good home. Now I quote
avail. and price in first sentence. Then ask for details on family, lifestyle, etc.
And
say if their home is a good match for a Cavalier, I'll be happy to send them more info
or
answer any questions they may have.I prefer to start with e-mail also. Long distance
calls
are expensive and time consuming. Email is so much more convenient!
Oh, and people can get mad if you quote them a high price or do other things to get
rid of
them. I just recently had somone post on the Cavalier Message Board that they had
"rescued
" a bitch from an auction that I had knowingly sold to a large commercial breeder.
Said
they had seen the papers with my name (signature) and kennel name on it, (but stated my
name was Debra, not Deborah), and that I had not answered their queries about this and
was
a horrible, terrible person and breeder and they were going to get me kicked out of all
Clubs on Ethics charges. Of course, this was all a fabrication --- I came to the
conclusion that it was someone I had turned down as a puppy buyer. And here I am
always
trying to be nice to people, I had quoted a high price just to make them go away.
