Well, Glenn
This probably won't help when habits have been established - and it is
obvious to me that MANY who own Cavaliers prefer that their dogs share
their furniture, but ....
some of us decided a long time ago that dogs belonged on the floor, not
on the couch / chair / other upholstered furniture. I do invite Justine
up into my lap and cuddle her sometimes - and sometimes allow her to
come cuddle on the bed - but - mainly all my dogs stay on the floor -
I provide them with beds, quilts, cool tile flooring, carpet, etc - so
they have various options - but they don't 'live' on the couch or the
chairs in the living room -
Frankly, I have enough problems keeping up with the hair on the floor -
I'd never keep up with the furniture, too -

As for the walls - I think I'd suggest some vinyl wallpaper that wipes
down easily -- probably will hold up & last longer than a painted surface -
I'm still using the painted walls - which do need repainting <g>
