Hello All
Let me start by saying thank you for the many responses to my
questions on cavalier warrantees posed to the list members.

We will from all of this information be able to formulate one for "Cavaliers"
for myself in the future and a dear friend who is expecting her first litter
soon.

Let me also state how I handle show & or congenital defects in "Brittanys".
The dog is warranted free of "disqualifying faults" for 1 year. "Congenital
defects" for its lifetime, if a pup of mine has a congenital defect proof of
which must be provided to me. At that time the owners can choose to
spay/neuter & keep their pet, or return it to me and in EITHER case the dog
in question will be replaced at NO ADDITIONAL COST.

As a breeder I test hips, elbows patellas & eyes, and yes hearts are also
checked too. We all breed to get the most genetically sound healthy specimens
we can. But anyone who has ever bred a litter know S*%)* happens and some
wind up with faults the parents do not themselves possess, but apparently
carry the genetics for.

No, It is not an exact science this breeding thing ... but as a breeder "I
feel" an obligation to the new owners owner to assure them if there is
something wrong with their pet/show dog I will give them another (hopefully)
more healthy pet/show dog that will fulfill my obligation as a breeder to
produce sound healthy specimens for myself and others.

In fact my first Cavalier has MVD and yes still lives with us... We opted to
keep him and take the difference between a show / pet dog. The breeder was
good about it all in fact we went to heart clinics together to test all the
dogs. Her warrantee though very vague in this area she has fulfilled.

My heart goes out to those who have gotten dogs from those less than
scrupulous breeders out there and have gotten burned.

Unfortunately through my post some overzealous list members who know about my
boy have misconstrued this as a personal attack on the breeder. Nothing could
be further from the truth... it was as it was represented a request for
information to help formulate a warrantee that better covers these areas in
the cavalier health issues.

Perhaps they might find better things to do with their time, or better
yet...contribute to the conversation in a constructive manner.

Off my soap box
