> Raising any breed of dog for the pet market is, in my opinion, obscene.

Wow, that is a telling phrase.

My own dogs are pets. I don't like to see them sick, in pain or die an
early death. I especially don't like to spend lots of money and giving them
daily medication to keep them alive a few more years. Maybe I'm weird, but
that's me! I've enjoyed having each of my Cavaliers for 14+ years without
needing heart medication or needing any type of structural surgery.

So you think we should breed to the show market. Great--now tell me exactly
what we should all be breeding for--the exact look that will always win
under every judge. Wait--you are saying each judge has their own idea of
what *good* is! Ooops!
Then how do you know for certain breeders who breed for type and health have
dogs that do not look as good? Because they don't win as much? Wait--are
you saying the best dog always wins? That there is no subjectivity or
political element to showing? That showing a lot and knowing some judges
personally doesn't help?
