Jo Ann, I agree with a great deal of what you've said, but
it has little or nothing to do with the Club sending out a
solicitation of any kind.  The breeders you mentioned are more
than a little unlikely to donate money to an animal rights group,
I don't care who endorses it.  And, isn't that the point, whether
it actually caused any real harm?  In my opinion, it didn't.  If
anything, it made many people, who had probably ignored it in the
first place, aware how dangerous something, that may seem
innocuous on the surface, may be.  And, sadly, I'm not in the least
surprised how little research new "breeder" do.  Unfortunately,
there are a few of those "king james spaniard" breeders around
here.
