Subject: Re: advice please -

All but one of Rose's spells have been in the summer
(I went back and looked). One was in the Fall so I
counted it as "not summer" but it was hot. She wasn't
always playing hard but most times she was coming in
after a play bit in the yard. She is an avid squirrel hunter
and will sit for hours looking at them in the trees. The
rigidity is spectacular, no other word for it. Her stare is
direct (she looks anxiously at me)...she drools but not
a great deal. The tremors are more like an electrical movement, not like
trembling. We always are very concerned when it happens and we record it
and call the vet, but she recovers in a few minutes. I am encouraged by the
fact that the seizures which started about 3 years ago have lessened in
number per year. She had the biggest number of episodes the first year. I
honestly thought someone was poisoning her, but there was no foaming at the
mouth and she did not show any signs of difficulty with breathing although
it was hard to tell since she is stiff as a board when this happens....once
or twice she "paddled" her legs a little about 1/2 way through the episode.
I think the color is probably just coincidence.
I am not a breeder. I am going to go look for those articles, I swear, this
afternoon and see if it mentions colour -- I can't remember. It is
interesting. I mean the whole picture of the seizure is different. I have
had a dog in the past (not a Cavalier) with epilepsy and it isn't like that
dog's seizures, I had one (very old and not a Cavalier) who had strokes and
seizures accompanied them, and it was entirely different, and I have had one
Cavalier who suffered a minor head trauma and had a seizure and that was
really scary and completely different as well. I wish I knew more, but I
hope I have been some help anyway. Pam Q.
