I don't test hips anymore.  I believe it's too subjective.  Yes, I bred a
mildly dysplastic dog to a tested clear dog because all the other assets,
including longevity in the ancestors,  outweighed the "possibility" that HD
would be passed on.   I don't believe in throwing the baby out with the
bathwater......... It's a matter of what your comfortable with.
Part of being an ethical breeder is being honest about what one does.
I fully explain my position about HD to anyone inquiring about a pup.  I
encourage them to seek as much info as they can about the subject, talk to
other breeders.......I have nothing to hide.  Once I have decided that the
buyer is a home that I want my pup to go to......it's then up to them to
decide if they want to purchase from me based on what I've explained to
them.
Breeding, as you know, is a balancing act.......I weigh everything in
evaluating potential pairings.
What good is it if a dog with excellent hips dies at 5 yrs old?
