babies

Back in the 80s I had two dogs spayed during a c-section--an Irish Setter
and a Cavalier. The Irish Setter had 10 puppies, the Cavalier had no living
puppies (the reason she was being spayed). The Irish Setter had no trouble
at all with milk--I will never know about the Cavalier. However both had
problems with excess bleeding-the blood volume is so increased on pregnant
bitches it can be hard to prevent this from happening when spaying at this
time. The Irish Setter nearly died and had to have a couple of blood
transfusions. The Cavalier had to be wrapped tightly and managed to recover
fairly well without a blood tranfusion. Our vet clinic will not do spays
during c-sections anymore. They saw way too many complications.
