Hi All, I have had two spays when c-sections were required on two different breeds of dogs over the years( this is over a 30 year time spand). One was on a mastiff, who had an emergency c- section due to uterine enertia. The vet recommended it , said she was in good shape internally, so I agreed. She never had a problm with the surgery or with milk supply. The other was on a French Bulldog. The vet (different vet) said that she only does that depending on the condition of the uterus. She did do my Frenchie and no problems, with milk or bleeding. Some dogs are more at risk everytime they go under surgery ( ex. flat faced breeds). I would not recommend that people do this as it probably varies greatly from dog to dog. Face it surgery is always a risk. Thank God my experiences turned out o.k. I would have to say it might depend on ALL the circumstances involved. Best of Luck! JOY in St. Cloud
