Glenn -- I know that others have given you similar advice, but I just had to
get my 2cents in. IMHO I think it's more cruel to take your little girl
along to the other dog's class and leave her in the crate where she can't
participate. I also think that covering the crate isn't an answer because
she can still hear and smell everything that's going on -- and will feel even
more left out.
Now that I have a multiple dog household ( how DID we go from one dog
to three in way less than 2 years???) my solution is to leave one home either
in her crate or in the bedroom with the door shut (crates are in bedrooms).
That way, the left behind(s) can't really see us leaving. I get to spend
quality time with the dog that goes with me.
Since you say they have separate classes, presumably Dixie then gets
to go with you and only you without other dogs. That's the night that you
spend with Dixie and treat her to an ice cream cone or sundae (just kidding).
I really think it's nicer for both of you, but especially for Dixie
who won't have to watch (listen) as the left-out one or won't have to be
yelled at or have water squirted at her when she's trying to tell you she
wants to play too. It's hard being a parent!
