I agree. What is good for the goose should be good for the gander. We shouldn't impose different restrictions on AKC-only dogs. There are so many different USA registries. Any breeder, no matter where their Cavalier came from or what it looks like (or even if it is purebred!) can find a place to register their Cavalier puppies. They ARE doing so and having no trouble selling puppies--many don't even offer registration papers at all and still get $1800 a puppy! CKCSC rules presently offer absolutely no protection for any Cavaliers or Cavalier breeding unless they are registered with CKCSC. The only thing we could lose is an accurate registry so I propose requiring a DNA profile on every AKC and/or CKCSC dog used in a breeding program which involves CKCSC in any way. I don't believe $35 per dog is too much to ask for this type of freedom which I believe will greatly benefit the breed. Plus I believe it will be an AKC requirement before long anyway!
