I don't feel that it SHOULD be imposed upon the AKC members, unless they
make the choice to use a dual registered dog. I view it like this: If
someone comes to me and asks to use my Robbie at stud, I tell them that I
like to see health clearances on their girls. If they don't want to get the
girl tested, then they usually pass on Robbie and go to another dog anyhow.
So, it wouldn't be any difference. It would be: If you want to use a dual
registered boy, then you will need to be sure your girl is age appropriate,
and has at least an eye, heart and hip clearance in order to breed to him.
It really is up to them whether or not they would choose to use him from
that point on. We are a very close knit group up here whether we dual
register or whether we don't. Of course, there are occasional differences
among us, but basically, we all test and we all use the same specialists to
do our testing. We cheer each other on at the AKC shows. We are very open
about our test results and it seems increasingly silly for us to be sitting
at the same health clinics, holding equally nice, tested, imported dogs, one
dual reg, one AKC only, and knowing that for some pretty counter-productive
reasons, we can't breed to each other's dogs. Just plain silly. Now, what
I want to know is what it would take for the people who are opposed to it to
accept it. What is their comfort level and level of acceptance. Myra
