Actually there is no registration that means anything as to the health of
any dog. It's the ability of dedicated breeders to put together healthy long
lived lines and then hope that they will get a preponderance of healthy
offspring. Testing is only part of the equation, good breeders also look at
longevity and overall good health into old age. This my registry is better
than your registry does a great disservice to the breed as a whole, it drives
people apart and lessons the available gene pool. Yes, I have heard the
argument the gene pool is set and that more dogs won't expand it, but it is
scientific fact that different genes are expressed differently in different
dogs. That is why some dogs live so much longer than others. It's also true
in people, that's why heart disease, diabetes, cancer, etc., seem to run in
some families, but not in others. It would be nice to have a reasonable
discussion of the subject and less name calling and invective. Everyone is
entitled to an opinion, but tact and sensitivity to others would be
appreciated when expressing one's opinion. It's time to separate emotion from
this issue and deal with facts.
