Yes, the Cavalier Club can do whatever "it" desires. Howver, I read this with great sadness, as we are supposed to protect all Cavaliers, not just the ones who belong to members of our club. The more open we are to all owners of Cavaliers, the more Cavaliers who will be protected by our Code of Ethics. Yes, it's easier to get an AKC Championship than a CKCSC one, just has to do with the numbers of dogs who compete and the withdrawal of Champions from regular classes. These dogs all come from the same background. Will we ever really just think of the dog instead of politics? There are too many people who seem to devote themselves to excluding others. There have been wonderful dog people who have left and/or are leaving the breed because of the "nastiness" of some of the people involved. There seems to be no thought of the dogs. The Club is supposed to protect the breed - that means all Cavaliers - wherever they may be. I feel we have let our Cavaliers down. I don't feel the Club is supposed to be a social club, a club of pet owners voting on rules of breeding. ( I think it is impossible to understand breeding if you don't do it. I know I didn't;, and I have a degree in Animal Science and have been a pet owner/lover for many years). I feel only breeders should vote on issues related to breeding. That's not to say that our "just pet" owners aren't important, the Club couldn't exist without them. Many people have stated this better than I have, just had to put my 2 cents in.
I guess I'm just a Pollyanna at heart . . . .
