I may be one of the few people who doesn't think that that mandatory testing should be a requirement of admission of AKC dogs into the CKCSC, USA. Don't get me wrong, I believe in testing. I test hearts, eyes, hips, and patella, and breed according to the 1998 Heart Symposium Protocol.
My feeling is that that vote as to whether or not to allow AKC dogs to be registered with the Club should not hinge on any sort of testing. I feel these should be treated as two completely separate issues. Mandatory testing is not in place now. Vote on the issue of AKC dogs, alone. Then allow a period of time for those AKC only breeders that wish to register with the Club to do so. Then, after all the registrations, if the Club wants health testing to be mandatory for ALL Cavaliers within the CKCSC, USA, then add that. Adding the two concepts together just makes the whole idea overwhelming and convoluted. Break it down and take the issues one at a time.
