ALL Cavaliers in or coming into the CKCSC, USA should be included. American Bred, English imports, Irish imports, etc. should also be included. Only then will the heart health of Cavaliers be improved. Imposing health restrictions only on AKC dogs won't matter one whit. I say, allow AKC dogs to be included in the CKCSC, USA and then propose heart health restrictions on EVERYONE. >>Presently, as this debate has indicated thus far, many CKCSC breeders are adverse to following scientifically recognized health-conscious breeding practices, using excuses such as not wanting to even sending original medical records to the Health Registry (for fear of losing them -- in four years and with over a thousand of such records, none have been lost) or not submitting X-rays to OFA.<< It was ME that posted (something I am sure you are acutely aware of that) that I do not participate in the Health Registry as I will not mail my originals. I offer NOTHING to you as an excuse. I do hearts, eyes, hips, and patellas and do follow the Heart Protocol. So, just this breeder chooses not to use the registry, or doesn't have a listing on the Premier List (which, by the way, I understand you no longer moderate) doesn't mean they aren't keenly interested in the health and well-being of the breed. I have absolutely no problem with mandatory testing. But why in heaven's name would you want to subject only one group of Cavaliers (AKC only) to a set of standards that are above what others here in the USA and registered or registerable with the CKCSC, USA are subjected to..unless it's just to add more subterfuge as a way not to get AKC dogs accepted at all.
