The suspension of the twelve members was more than a past error, it was a huge miscarriage of justice, that absolutely insured the destructive division that we have now.
That both clubs are stewards and protectors of the breed goes without saying. However, the breeders/exhibitors ultimately hold the future of this breed in their hands. Many of whom do not belong to any club. That means that the people involved in this breed are just as important as the dogs themselves. Anything that can be done to heal the rift, put the past behind us and bring the breeders together, not just for the inclusion of the dogs in breeding programs, but also for education, clinics, support, camaraderie, dollars for research, etc, etc, etc; should be done immediately. Mandatory health testing is not going to bring breeders to the CKCSC. There are many new people becoming involved in this breed that have (or have had) other breeds. They never knew the wonderful venues we had where every show was a specialty. They are used to the AKC world and function well in it. They will not be inclined to join a club that mandates health testing to register their dogs. They will, however, be inclined to join a club where they can find all of the things listed above to increase their success in breeding and enjoyment of their new breed. Personally, I miss the old club desperately, but I guess I would rather "walk the 50 miles" than get on the bus that compromises my values.
