One thing that I can tell you for a certainty, Laura, and it is our repro vet who has told us this repeatedly. A dog collected without a teaser bitch will not generally release all of the sperm faction. The fluid will be there and thousands of sperm. Unless you do an actual sperm count, you can't tell by just looking under the microscope that there aren't enough sperm. There are millions of them in a collection and by checking one drop, you can't know for sure if there are enough. We've collected our boy using a teaser bitch and then went back again 3 days later using the artificial scents and did an actual sperm count both times. Without a teaser bitch the sperm count was dramatically lower....even though it looked the same to me on the scope......and could not have impregnanted a bitch. The fluid volume of the collection was the same. Our repro vet, who is an actual, fully trained, repro specialist versus just a vet who has a repro practice, will not do a fresh chilled shipment unless the males (of all breeds) can be collected with a teaser bitch. The dogs really do know the difference if there is no visible bitch near by for the breeding, and they don't necessarily waste a good ejaculate on what they perceive as nothing. Myra
