Hi - I know there has already been a lot said about this subject but I figured a little more info wouldn't hurt! You know how sometimes you hear something once and you never forget it? I heard a Police Officer who was doing a Safety demonstration at my office, of all places, very clearly and graphically describe what a 20 pound dog would look like and experience flying through a car as a projectile during an accident. It certainly could be killed, go through the windshield and actually kill a person "during flight". This was enough for me. I have NEVER had a loose dog in my car. I have 2 #200 Vari Kennels in the back, each on a bath mat, which keeps them from slipping. There is a barrier between them and the back seat and they are wedged in perfectly. If I need to take more than 4 dogs, I have the large size Kennel Cabs which fit end to end in the back seat and if you snap the seat belt into place first and then pull out the shoulder harness section, you can make a big loop to slide the crate into. I think it's easier and even more secure than trying to get it through the handle. Just my opinion. But please everyone, take this very seriously, this is the second accident I've heard about in two weeks.
