Norma, If a Blenheim x Tricolor are bred, these are the possible results: 50% Blenheim & 50% Tricolor, if the Tricolor parent is not dominant for black and carries for red. The Tricolor offspring will always carry for both red and black.
If a Tricolor with a red parent (ruby or blenheim) x Tri with red parent, these are the possible results: Tricolor DOMINANT for black, Tri who carries for red, Tri who carries for red, and Blenheim. So, it depends on the parents of each Tri you bred from. If a Tri parent behind one of your Tricolors was bred to numerous Blenheims and only produced tricolors then that parent may be dominant for black, but even then, all the offspring tricolors will still carry for red and black. I bred my black & tan (carries red and black) to a tri (carries red and black) and I got: 2 ruby boys (white disappeared), 1 ruby girl (little white) 2 black & tan girls (white disappeared), and a mismarked tricolor. One side of her face is a beautiful marked tri and the other is black & tan on a otherwise well broken tricolor coat. She will be the beginning of my particolor line since her mother is a great-granddaughter of Ch.Salador Corrigan and her father is Ch.Sheeba Special Edition. The black & tan and tri offspring will carry for both red and black. This breeding resulted in the only ruby son of James, Pratt Christmas Special to win Best Junior Puppy Dog, and Best Ruby In Show at the CKCSC,USA National Specialty show ( 5 months old, first show) under stiff competition (1 out of 11). His black & tan sister, Pratt Christmas Joy, placed 4th out of 17 in Junior Puppy Bitch. It would be lovely to make up my first champion out of this litter. I hope this is helpful, these are notes from my color cheat sheet saved from March 1998, CNE News & Views.
