Hi List, I have a singleton puppy born last Sunday, her birth weight was 91/2 ounces. Within 36 hours she went down to 73/4 ounces. I know it is not unusual for a newborn to lose some weight at first but this little one is still 73/4 ounces at almost 5 days old. She is a strong puppy and seems quiet and contented. Mum has lots of milk but when she feeds she makes quite loud sucking noises. I tried squeezing the milk into her mouth at first, but decided it would be better to feed her myself until she started to gain weight. My vet is unable to find anything wrong with this puppy, said maybe she picked up an infection during the quite traumatic birth and has put her on antibiotics as a precaution. I have been feeding her with the Carnation milk mixture recommended in Betty Bloomfield's book, which she seems to like and is taking 5 mls at a time. I just cannot understand why she is not gaining weight. Has anyone else experienced this? Carol
