My cat's vet (cat's only clinic) told me recently that many of the cats in their clinic do not get all the care they need (or is recommended) because the husbands will not pay for it. She said that the wife will want to do something, and the husband will not. She said that quite frequently the wife will ask to have something done, and say her husband is going to pick up the cat. She will ask for them to put half the price on the bill for the husband to pay, and she will pay half without his knowing. This just really astounded me. They are in a location where they get an upper class (and upper middle class) clientele, too, so this has nothing to do with the client's ability to pay. I do not understand people.
