How feesable is it to set up an FTP on the CLUG site so that once ONE of us DL's something, the rest can grab a copy from them? IE: If I get RH8 on Monday, I can immediately UL it to ftp.clug.com (or whatever), and then if other members wanted a copy, they could DL as appropriate. As a sort of CLUG-only mirror, sort of.
What are the limitations to such a proposal. I'm sure Disk Space, but that isn't insurmountable. We don't really want to mirror old versions, so lets just say that as a policy, we'll mirror the 2 most recient versions of versions of whatever (Gentoo, RH, Debian, Mandrake, Suse, Smoothwall, and maybe two or 3 more.) What's our Bandwidth limitation and.or Bandwidth useage look like? Can we do this? Even if we held 2 copies of 10 Distros, each averaging 3 Gigs, we'd end up with 60 Gigs of Disk Space. Which isn't much. That's what a 5-10 dollar donation from each of the active members on this mailing list? We'd clearly all benefit. Is this an idea worth pursuing?
