I found drivepro to be very good for cleaning a disk. It has an option to format the first ten sectors of a hard drive, which makes a drive squeaky clean. Then you can use your favorate Disk utility to create the partitions/format etc...
Do a google search for drivepro.exe In this case it probably wont be good cause you don't have a floppy, but if you could put it on a bootable cd...
