I've got a rage 128 and a rage pro both happy under XFree86 4.x, I used some
nice SuSE tools to make em dance....

but I used to get that same error you're after I had activated a TV that was
connected to my video out while the system was running. Apparently X has
some problems figuring out whats going on when you do that.. Apparently if
you google it you can find some way to make everything dance...

The way I got it to work is sad and should never be used... I reinstalled
and have not used my coax-video out since.

Other then that, the cards themselves should be fine, I'd just worry about
your minitor.. Have you infact gone though the configuration with
XF86Config?

Take care,
 James
