Can I see your sane mode setting as an example? It still is not working.

The nice thing about XFree86 4.x is that it has a bunch of sane
modelines built into it. You just have to make sure that: a) you've
configured the right driver, b) you've configured the right hardware
parameters for your card (or that it's is autodetected properly -- see
logs), and c) your monitor setting (HorizSync and VertRefresh) are
configured properly (or are autodetected properly if your monitor
supports DPMS). Oh, and that in the "Screen" Section, you've chosen a
sane Mode setting (try 640x480 first then keep bumping it up)

Chances are, your monitor isn't configured properly. Look up your
monitor's specs in the manual or on the 'Net.

In setting up X, your logs will always be invaluable.

I'm using an ATI 3D RagePro card on this machine without trouble. They
may be totally different chipsets, though.
