presistent, aren't we? ;-)
ok, have you ever heard of people having trouble installing windows? i have. a
lot. does this mean that windows is not ready for the desktop? no, it
actually means that the Intel hardware platform is pretty crappy: tons of
non-standard pieces of hardware that have various levels of driver support
and production quality.
truth be told, installing an OS is not a desktop usage activity. desktops come
preinstalled, either by a vendor or by a member of your company's tech staff.
that said, it is as easy or easier to install a modern linux distro than it is
windows in my experience...
of course, there are those who seem to believe that what is required is
absolute perfection before it can be called "ready". i hope you have big
lungs, Richard, because you'll be holding your breath for a long time on that
one.
