About the RAM, knoppix web site says 96 minimum for X but I just ran it on a P233 with 64 and KDE3 and OpenOffice do run. Very slow but they do run.

It even found a better X config for my ATI card and monitor the Mandrake 9 did. Wow!

Yes I'll vouch for it's serious coolness as well.

I had it running for a little while on my laptop (166/96ram). very nice if
you want a quick install with all the KDE 3 goodness without a lot of
fussing. It even includes sndconfig for old soundcards!

very nice,

Marcel

Subject: (clug-talk) Quick Debian Install

Just for interest...

I'm sure a lot of you now have seen/used Knoppix. It's a fantastic
little distribution that runs entirely off the CD. It's based on Debian
and includes all the goodies + awesome hardware detection.

I thought some might be interested in a script:

/usr/local/bin/knx-hdinstall (or something like that)

It's located on teh Knoppix CD and will install Knoppix to your harddisk
complete with all the software it came with.

It's pretty slick and since Knoppix already autodetects all the H/W on
bootup, what it copies over just works.

So if you like Debian but you want a really quick install...

Jeff
