Wow, that's a good point. I was thinking using the ones with serial port via modem. Yes, it has happened to me several times too lately that a couple of my systems have been locking-up badly, no console or nothing. These systems are running rh6.2. I think that it may have to do with 2GB size file limitation? I work for a company that is into remote sensing and we generate immense amounts of data and files size is a limitation.

Now, do you mean to say that when the system really locks up there's not remote nothing that would power-cycle it?

Thanks for your reply.
Rafael.

Only thing is, of course, if you reboot the box and it is runnig ext2, it might take a while to come back up, and it may also cause file corruption.

You might want to try some kind of out-of-band management, i.e serial port access via a modem, though I don't know what you mean by "crash". Like, totally locked up, so you can't even get a console to work? If so, you might as well just reboot them anyways, though I don't know of Linux dong that too often; mind you, it has happened to me, usually with corrupt harddrives, etc,

Try these guys:

Good devices, fully manageable via SNMP.
