I've had this problem for many years now with certain IBM 300GL models. We first solved it for Windows 98, but I've seen it occur on Windows 2000 as well. Additionally, I've seen these symptoms while going through a KVM. And on top of that, I've sometimes seen this erratic mouse behaviour happen very sporadically on other IBM boxes as well, usually following some very vigorous mouse gesture. A reboot usually takes care of it if that is the case (at least on Win98).
Since you're using Linux, however, I think we can officially say it's not the OS. (OK, well maybe partly, but I'll get to that). :) The KVM can definitely be your problem. Try: a) Getting new/updated drivers for your KVM for your respective OS. :P b) Removing the box from the KVM. But here is our ongoing solution: a) Get new/updated drivers from IBM for the box family/model type for your respective OS. :P Honestly, that was it. Somehow the PS/2 is shaky on some IBM boxes, and the only correction we've ever found is drivers. No BIOS update, etc. ever fixed it. Unfortunately, that may not be what you wanted to hear as a Linux user, but hopefully you can find something. You may want to check IBM's forums as well, sometimes there are some user-submitted links for any problem you might be experiencing (http://www.pc.ibm.com/support or http://www.pc.ibm.com/support?lang=en_US&brand=IBM+ThinkPad%7CThinkPad+A20p% 7C2629%7C61U&doctype=Hot+news&subtype=Cat&lang=en_US&page=hottips&doctype=&s ubtype=All&up= for the forums. Unfortunately, you have to create an account for forums use.). Bah, I hate giving "solutions" like this, but hopefully you can work something out. Sincerely, Curtis. -----Original Message----- From: Chris Wallace [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Wednesday, January 29, 2003 10:53 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: (clug-talk) Install Fun Hey Graham, I have the exact symptoms you're describing when using a mouse though KVM, so I gave up and just connected it directly to the box and it's working fine for me now. Good luck with it ;-) Chris On January 29, 2003 11:21 pm, Graham Monk wrote: > >>Any ideas?
